It's Biden!

The AP is reporting that Joe Biden will be Obama's VP nominee. Obama's campaign said they will start sending the text messages out around 5am tomorrow morning. I thought those people were suppose to know before everyone else. Of course I've had this nailed for months. Although I never thought to post it here so I guess you'll just have to take my word for it. I predicted that Obama would pick Biden months ago. The reason Obama needed national security credentials. Of course this is a double edged sword for the Freshman Senator. By picking Biden, Obama basically admits he's weak on national security. This of course gives the McCain camp lots of ammunition.

I have a couple more VP profiles to write. After I finish those I'll let you know who I think the Republican VP nominee should be.

  1. One could argue the same for G.W. in his 2000 pick of Cheney.

I wonder how the Obama camp is going to control his long winded rants.

  2. I agree that McCain will go after Obama for picking Biden. I'm not sure it offers him "lots of ammo," though. But it certainly is the main weak point of the pick, which is why I've advised against the pairing of the two since I started profiling VP candidates at the end of May. If I were Obama, I'd have given MT Gov. Brian Schweitzer a closer look. Or, if he wanted to stay conventional, then pick Tim Kaine, and lock up Virginia for the Democrats.

But Biden is a bull dog, which is something the GOP needs to be ready for. If you guys think you can just sit back and air some clips of Biden criticizing Obama during the primaries, then you're in for a rude awakening.

Watch out for Biden's populist streak. Expect to hear him talking alot about the economy. I'd suspect he was chosen as much for his ability to play the populist as he was for foreign policy experience.

  3. General,
The truth is Republicans had more creditablity on Foreign Policy in 2000. Largely due to Reagan winning the cold war. However even if you believe that we lost some of that with the war in Iraq, it doesn't transfer over to the Democrats. Democrats are still seen as weak on security issues by many.
